Language is the way in which we communicate thoughts and ideas with others in our community. There are 3 main aspects of language, including receptive language (comprehension of what we hear/read), expressive language (formulation or expression of thoughts and ideas in speaking, writing, or signing), and pragmatic language (the social use of language, nonverbal skills). Children who experience difficulty in any of these language areas, may greatly benefit from direct language intervention to aid them in becoming successful communicators.

Delay or disorder in comprehension of language (listening or reading)

Delay or disorder in expression of language (speaking or writing)
social (pragmatic) communication disorder
Difficulty using pragmatic verbal and nonverbal communication for social purposes
